Shreds and Recycles 140,000 Pounds of Paper
Over 2,500 Cars Visit Free
BBB Shred Day Events
Austin, TX - May 9, 2011 – Local BBB Shred Day events last
month resulted in participants shredding a total of 140,000 pounds (70 tons) of
financial records, business forms and other confidential documents. To keep
sensitive identification information away from the hands of identity thieves, a
total of 2,544 cars visited shredding events held in Round Rock, Corpus
Christi, Midland and San Antonio, Texas. In addition, over 5,000 pounds of
electronics and 1,100 pounds of cardboard were collected and recycled by
Goodwill at the events.
To illustrate the impact that Shred Day attendees had on their local communities,
the amount of material shredded and recycled is saving the equivalent of the following
items:

gallons of water (enough for 324 homes for 1 month)

kilowatt hours of electricity (enough to power 299 homes for 1 month)

Shred Day was one of 53 Shred Day events held nationwide last month. Over
12,000 consumers participated and shredded over 450 tons of sensitive
documents.

positive environmental and financial impact these successful events had on our
local economies."
Dell, Goodwill,
Financial Fitness of Greater Austin, the Corpus Christi Police Department,
Austin American Statesman, and media partners KIII-TV, WOAI-TV and KXAN-TV
served as local sponsors for the events. BBB partnered with Cintas Document
Management, Lonestar Shredding and Document Storage and Shred-It San Antonio to
