Many consumers contact the BBB to find ethical companies with whom to do business. The BBB provides these consumers with industry-specific lists of BBB member companies. With over 95% of BBB services being provided via the Internet, this benefit is sure to steer consumers to BBB member businesses!
Pre-purchase Company Reports (24 hours a day)
Prospective customers are told of a firm's reliability, whether they are a member, how long they have been a member, as well as basic company information.

This number is made available to BBB members only. The unlisted number is always handled as a priority call.
Member Plaque and Decal
A distinctive plaque and decal gives a member firm visibility as a company that maintains BBB standards, thus increasing customer confidence.
Member Newsletter
An exclusive newsletter provides members with vital business/consumer information. Published monthly, the "Bulletin" reports on BBB activity, fraudulent activities aimed at businesses, and much more.

Governing Board
The BBB is governed by a board of directors from the community, which is elected by the membership.
Employee Benefits
Member companies are given bulletin board posters, news bulletins, and signs that recognize the employer as a BBB member who is providing additional employee benefits. The BBB can assist employees in purchasing problems, which will reduce distractions on the job.
Self-Regulation of Business
The BBB is designed for self-regulation of business by exposing fraudulent companies and unethical business practices and to ensure the vitality of the free enterprise system.
Media Exposure
The Better Business Bureau works closely with the news media to inform consumers of scams and to advise the public of protective measures in purchasing. The BBB contacts the media as soon as information is brought to the attention of the BBB or when an investigation is completed.
Advertising Guidelines and Advertising Review
The BBB publishes a Code of Advertising, giving guidelines to businesses to promote ethics in advertising. The BBB encourages accuracy and truth in advertising which builds consumer confidence. Local advertisements are reviewed by the BBB for truth and accuracy.
BBB Membership Identification Program (MIP)
BBB members may use the BBB logo or membership phrase "Member Better Business Bureau" in local advertising including yellow page directories, newspapers, radio, and television, as well as in company printed materials. Alternative Dispute Resolution
This program provides free arbitration services by unbiased, certified professionals. The program can save member companies court costs, time and money in settling consumer complaints that they are unable to resolve themselves.

Valuable buying information for all consumers (your clients, family, employees, and you) is provided on nearly one hundred topics.
Integrity and Public Trust
BBB membership is by invitation only. Many firms are not eligible to join because they do not meet Better Business Bureau standards for business performance.
